FRANK

Frank creates a unique soundscape in the transition from noise to music. He has arranged his improv set with hints of melodies, sporadic rhythms, and sound structures formed from a variety of analogue sound samples. These are integrated into the digital signals of a no-input mixer and various electronic devices. Frank also plays a resonator guitar, which was modified by Michael Danner. Driven by a motor, a coil, and a closed circuit, the strings are set into continuous vibration, generating an endless sustain. This leads to a radical change in both the sound and handling of the instrument.

Collaborations with with the @pafgens, „Dizzy Moon“ @maryzblue, @beltership, ICNISP @marina_cyrino / @matthiaskoole,  Rieko Okuda, @Zustand D., @Cate Hops, @tintin_patrone, Ida Schuften Juhl @knackere_d, Mizuki Ishikawa @fun_k_son@Zayse@berenicellorens, Francis Heery and @carolinececiliatallone have influenced his music with elements of DIY instruments, experimental arrangements, sound art and noise.

„Special thanks to my beloved wife Jo  – @glasambel for her incredible archive of analogue sounds.“

JD ZAZIE
is an experimental DJ, avant-turntablist, sound artist and curator. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background JD Zazie has explored different approaches to real-time manipulation of fixed recorded sound. In her work she redefines DJ and electroacoustic activities. As a solo performer, in small groups, and in large ensembles, she works in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what could be defined as DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed music.
JD Zazie is a member of Reanimation Orchestra, is part of Hiccup (w/ Marina Cyrino, Tony Elieh, Matthias Koole) and plays regularly solo and duo with Heidrun Schramm. She is the art director of the MuseRuole – women in experimental music festival,  a member of the Burp Enterprise collective and broadcasts monthly on Colaboradio and on Reboot.fm.

Frank and Mizuki Ishikawa – Live

I played a duo with Mizuki Ishikawa at:
Liebig12 – 1st March 2025.
Mizuki Ishikawa is an improviser and sound artist based in Berlin. By bringing everyday objects onto the stage through improvisation, she explores the boundaries between art and everyday life, questioning what can and cannot be considered a performance. Sound serves as her primary material, and she manipulates the acoustic environment using feedback from self-built electronic devices. Through improvisation, Mizuki aims to integrate the space, the audience, herself, and time into a cohesive experience.

This evening, our friends Seiji Morimoto (@seijimorimoto) and Andreas Voccia (@andreasvoccia) celebrated their record release with a performance as a duo.

Mizuki and I were very pleased to join as their special guests!
